Tom has over 20 years experience working in the UK grocery industry, and has built an enviable reputation of successfully growing niche businesses.




After graduating, Tom worked for, then bought, the specialist shopper insights consultancy him! research and consulting.

Between 1997 and 2012, almost every major convenience retail chain and wholesale business, and 49 of the top 50 UK FMCG brand owners, worked with him! and rapidly became the ‘go to’ consultancy on the UK convenience retail sector, with revenues, EBITDA, client numbers all increased swiftly (market leading growth for over a decade).

Tom was pivotal in internationalising the business by launching him! in Australia, New Zealand and USA.

Him! was acquired by William Reed Business Media in 2012 with Tom stepping down in 2014.   

In 2013, Tom became a seed investor in the launch of Bolt Learning – a market-leading digital platform with online learning content. Upon investment, Tom became a N.E.D. of Bolt before stepping up and taking on executive duties by running the sales and marketing aspects of the start-up enterprise. Following a period of sustained sales growth, Bolt was acquired in 2019 by a Scottish private equity firm. Tom remains a minority shareholder of Bolt but has stepped down from day-to-day and executive duties. In September 2019, Tom joined The Whole Sale Company , the data specialists for the UK wholesale and convenience sector, as development director.
